The Museum of Northern Arizona has a nearly 90-year history with a mission to inspire a sense of love and responsibility for the beauty and diversity of the Colorado Plateaus through collecting, studying interpreting and preserving the regions's natural an cultural heritage.
With a new and dynamic Executive Director in place, it was time to build alignment with the Museum staff and Board and update the Museum's strategic plan.
Kim utilized a capacity building online self-assessment tool in advance of a staff and Board retreat to gain a shared understanding of how the Museum's key stakeholders viewed their internal capacities of programs, financial resources, systems, governance and management.
With this information, Kim customized a two-day offsite retreat in which the Museum staff and Board created a roadmap for their future.
The results of the Museum staff and Board capacity building self-assessment tool, combined with the team work of the retreat, resulted in an agreed-to and prioritized list of strategic priorities and a roadmap to achieve this multi-year plan.
"The capacity-building methodology gave our group a shared vocabulary for discussing where the museum’s strengths and opportunities lie—and for articulating where we go from here.
Kim received stellar feedback from everyone in the room—and I have to say that her ability to grasp the key aspects of the museums operations after reviewing only a few documents was truly impressive.
I’d recommend KCH to anyone embarking on an institutional planning process."
